Roof Incident (Update 2) – 18 March 2018

I have had the following information from the City of Edinburgh Council Estates Department. The companies that are conducting this weekend’s inspections are as below. These companies are independent of both Amey and the Edinburgh Schools Partnership (ESP).

1. Summers Inman are carrying out the ceiling inspection. (http://www.summers-inman.co.uk). The plan of works is Internal – all high level areas including but not limited to ceilings, lighting, projectors etc.

2. Pendrich Height Services will be carrying out the inspection of the roof.(http://www.pendrich.com). The plan of works is External – Roof – tactile inspection – video and report.

Both of the companies are already employed by the Council to carry out similar checks across the Council’s non-PPP estate, so we (the Estates Department of CEC) are confident this will give us a consistent approach to ensuring the building is safe.

Roof Incident (Update) – 16 March 2018

I have been in regular communication with the local councillors with respect to getting a full independent survey of the school done. This is the latest information this morning that I received from Councillor Scott Arthur and Councillor Jason Rust. The following is good progress.

1 and 2 will be independent but appointed by the Council and overseen by Estates’ professional staff. No 3 will be Council’s corporate H&S unit.

I have gone back to request that we get informed who the company for 1 & 2 will be once they know.

“Confirmation received as follows from the Head of Estates:

Further to the events of yesterday and correspondence from members, I can confirm that the following actions have been instructed by the Council.

  1. 1. Full tactile survey of the roof – this will be carried out by building surveyors via steeple jack who will video the inspection and also provide a written report.

2. Full condition survey (including tactile and intrusive where possible) of the entire school.

3. Full H&S Audit.

No. 1 will commence once we have suitable weather conditions. No. 3 will commence this morning.   No 2 will commence asap (I will advise later this morning)”
